At Meisterpilze, we are a small, passionate team driven by a love of nature, science, and sustainable innovation. Our core team consists of Luis and Jonas – but we are not alone: We wouldn't have come this far without a fantastic group of friends who support us in marketing, production, sales, and technology.
Furthermore, we collaborate with universities and research institutions on projects related to innovative applications of mycelium.
Together we are committed to growing high-quality mushrooms, developing sustainable products and exploring the amazing potential of mushrooms – always with curiosity, perseverance and an awareness of the importance of our planet.

Jonas, a biologist with a PhD and international experience, heads research and innovation at Meisterpilze and also takes on a variety of tasks throughout the company.

Luis, a chemist from Portugal with a great passion for nature and sustainability, manages the cultivation at Meisterpilze – and, as is common in small companies, also helps wherever he is needed.

FROM LOVE OF NATURE TO A MISSION FOR SUSTAINABILITY!

Meisterpilze was officially founded in June 2024, but our journey began long before that – with two people from different corners of the world, united by a shared passion for nature, science and new paths.

Luis grew up in Portugal, surrounded by fields, animals, and the scents of the earth. He later found in chemistry a language that deepened his curiosity about life. Jonas, born in Nuremberg, was influenced by the cultures of San Francisco, Shanghai, and Hawaii before returning to Erlangen, where he studied biology and earned his doctorate.

Four years ago, we decided to combine our knowledge, experience, and values with the goal of developing sustainable materials from mushroom mycelium and agricultural waste – a green alternative to polystyrene. Even though the time wasn't quite right, something much bigger emerged: Meisterpilze.

Today, we run a small urban mushroom farm in the heart of Erlangen, developing new mycelium products and bringing the fascinating world of mushrooms to your home with practical grow kits. At the same time, we continue to dream: of new research projects and a future in which mushrooms play an even greater role.

Meisterpilze is not an ordinary company for us.
