INCUBATION

Contamination is the most common reason why things don't work out. So work quickly and cleanly to give your culture the perfect start!

  • Prepare your workspace: Disinfect your hands and your work area thoroughly. Better safe than sorry!

  • Clean the port: Briefly wipe the injection port on the bag with a 70% alcohol pad.

  • Mix the culture: Give your liquid culture syringe a good shake to ensure the mycelium is evenly distributed.

  • Sterilize the needle: If you have a freshly unpacked needle, you can get started right away. If not: Heat the needle with a flame.

  • Inoculation: Carefully squirt about 3–5 ml of the culture through the port into the bag.

  • Sealing (optional): If you used a thicker needle, simply stick a small piece of breathable tape over the port after pulling it out.

COLONIZATION

This is how your mycelium thrives. The optimal conditions

For your culture to truly flourish, it needs the right environment. Here are the key details:

  • Temperature: 20–24°C is ideal. If it gets warmer, the risk of mold increases; if it's cooler, the mycelium takes its time growing.

  • Light: Not necessary! Just find a dark, clean spot.

  • Duration: Please be patient – the whole process takes about 4–5 weeks.

The “break and shake” process

  • The first mix: As soon as about a third (1/3) of the grain is white, carefully crumble the lumps and mix them with the remaining grain.

  • Recovery period: Leave the bag completely alone for 5-7 days afterwards to allow the mycelium to recover.

  • The final shake: Once everything is fully colonized (i.e., everything is 100% white), mix the entire substrate one last time. This ensures that growth is even throughout.

FRUIT &
HARVEST

To ensure a bountiful harvest, the right climate is crucial. Here are the details for the fruiting phase:

  • Temperature: Keep it between 18–24 °C (depending on the variety you are growing).

  • Light: Your mushrooms like it bright, but please no direct sunlight – indirect light is perfect.

  • Moisture: Only spray the bag with a fine mist if it looks dry. Important: Never spray directly onto the mushrooms!

The process:

  • Preparation: We recommend placing a rubber band around the substrate line. This prevents so-called "side-pinning" (mushrooms that grow inconveniently at the sides).

  • Fresh air: Make a small cut in the bag for air exchange. You can easily regulate this with a clip.

  • To stimulate growth : As soon as small heads (pins) of about 3–5 mm appear, they need more oxygen. Open the bag 1–2 times a day for a few minutes.

  • Harvesting: It's best to wear gloves. Carefully twist or cut the mushrooms off just before they release their spores.

Pro tip: To get the most out of your kit, ensure indirect light and high humidity. Always harvest just before spore release! Afterwards, you can soak the substrate in cold water for 12–24 hours ("dunking") to trigger the next harvest flush.
